As the new school year begins, it’s time to think about the impact we can all make on the lives of the children in our community. The Bellevue Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is extending an open invitation to everyone in Bellevue—whether you have children in the school or not—to join in supporting our local elementary school. Erin Thompson, our dedicated PTO President, believes that when our children thrive, the entire community flourishes.
What is the PTO and Why is it Important?
The Bellevue PTO is a dynamic group of parents, caregivers, teachers, and community members who come together with a shared goal: to enhance the educational experience of every student at Bellevue Elementary. The PTO is not just about organizing events and fundraisers; it’s about making a tangible difference in the school community. From funding field trips to organizing special projects and teacher-led initiatives, the PTO is at the heart of many positive changes at the school.
In the 2023-2024 school year alone, the PTO’s contributions were significant. Thanks to the generous support from the community, the PTO was able to provide a variety of resources and events, including:
- Teacher grants: Providing each teacher with $100 to spend on classroom supplies or a project they’d like to see funded in their classroom. These projects range from pencil sharpeners to rock painting supplies to guest speaker fees.
- Assemblies: Bringing in high-quality programs and experiences like the Carnegie Science Center
- Field Trips: Contributing $15 per student to enrich their learning experiences outside the classroom.
- Teacher & Staff Appreciation: Recognizing the hard work of those who shape our children’s education, not just one week per year but multiple times throughout the year
The PTO also organized events such as THE Scholastic Book Fair, Holiday Shop (which features high-quality goods at low price points), SPARKFest, the annual art and science fair, and Field Day (where you may have heard carnival music and lots and lots of laughter!). These events do more than just entertain—they build a sense of community and belonging among students, parents, and staff.
Who Can Join the PTO?
One of the most important messages from Erin Thompson and the entire PTO leadership is that everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be a parent or guardian of a student to join. Anyone who cares about the future of Bellevue and wants to contribute to the well-being of its youngest residents is encouraged to get involved.
By joining the PTO, you gain access to valuable information about school events, volunteer opportunities, and a monthly newsletter that keeps you informed and connected. More importantly, you get the chance to vote on issues that matter and to provide input on how to best support Bellevue Elementary School.
How to Get Involved
Getting involved with the PTO is simple and flexible. Membership is just $10 per family, and signing up is easy via the PTO’s website. You can participate as much or as little as you want—whether that means attending meetings, joining or leading a committee, or simply helping out with a fundraiser.

Even if you’re short on time, your membership alone makes a difference. The biggest responsibility as a PTO member is staying informed. You don’t have to attend meetings or volunteer if that doesn’t fit your schedule, but the PTO values every effort, big or small.
The First Meeting of the Year
The first PTO meeting for the 2024-2025 school year is scheduled for September 19 at 6:30 PM in the Bellevue Elementary School Auditorium. Children are welcome to attend, making it easier for parents and caregivers to participate.
Joining the PTO is more than just a commitment to the school; it’s a commitment to the future of our community. When we invest in our children, we invest in a stronger, more connected Bellevue. So, whether you’re a parent, a neighbor, or just someone who cares about the future of our town, consider joining the Bellevue PTO. Together, we can ensure that our children—and by extension, our entire community—continue to thrive.
