On December 2, 2023, Bellevue Elementary School received a one-of-a-kind LEGO makeover, thanks to the incredible creativity and dedication of RJ Thompson and his daughter, Amelia Parker Thompson. Unveiled at Bona Fide Bellevue‘s annual Light Up Bellevue event, the aptly named Brickvue Elementary is a stunning LEGO replica of the school, built with passion, precision, and a deep love for the community. Spanning four feet in width, nine feet in length, and standing two feet tall, the model boasts over 30 meticulously crafted classrooms, interactive features like opening walls and swinging doors, and a unique invitation for visitors to contribute their own LEGO minifigures to the display.
The exhibit was a hit, drawing in at least 200 visitors over its two-hour debut. Attendees spanned generations—former students reminisced about their days when the building was Northgate High School, while future Bellevue Elementary students eagerly explored their soon-to-be school in miniature form. The crowd’s excitement underscored the special place the school holds in the hearts of the community and showcased the power of creativity to bring people together.
In a heartfelt message, RJ expressed gratitude to all who supported and contributed to the project. He shared the behind-the-scenes journey, revealing that the model took five months to build and was designed entirely without digital tools, staying true to the improvisational spirit of LEGO. He also left unfinished elements, like the courtyard and playground, for students to complete—a thoughtful nod to the creativity and imagination of young builders. RJ hopes the model not only inspires joy but also encourages others in the community to embark on their own building projects, keeping the spirit of Brickvue alive.
As Brickvue Elementary takes up permanent residence at Bellevue Elementary School, it stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and community pride.
