Ghost Hunt at Bayne Library: A Paranormal Night to Remember
On Friday, September 13th, the Andrew Bayne Memorial Library hosted a thrilling “Ghost Hunt” fundraiser led by Bellevue resident and paranormal investigator Sue Vesch. The event brought together 10 participants, all eager to explore the haunted halls of this historic library. From 8 PM on the 13th to 3 AM on the 14th, the group experienced spine-chilling moments, with advanced paranormal equipment revealing possible spirit activity. One of the most unforgettable highlights was the sighting of Amanda Bayne’s ghost, who was seen looking out from the second-floor windows.

Sue Vesch, a well-known figure in Pittsburgh’s paranormal community, guided the group through the library with various devices designed to detect ghostly presences. One such tool was the Trip Wire, an EMF meter that reacts to changes in electromagnetic fields. The Trip Wire lit up multiple times, signaling the presence of something otherworldly. Attendees were captivated by these moments, witnessing firsthand how such devices can offer insights into the unseen world.
Another memorable moment occurred in the library’s attic, where Sue used various paranormal tools, including a cat ball and a laser grid. The cat ball, a touch-sensitive device, was placed on a table, and after asking any spirits to touch it, the group watched in awe as it lit up. The green laser grid, designed to detect shadows or movement, added an eerie atmosphere to the attic, making it a favorite spot for attendees looking to encounter the supernatural.
The night wasn’t just about modern ghost-hunting equipment—it was also steeped in the rich history of the Bayne Library and its resident spirit, Amanda Bayne Balph. Amanda, the original owner of the Victorian mansion-turned-library, is known to be a friendly yet mischievous ghost. She’s been known to turn on lights, hide items, and play with library equipment. Many believe that her increased activity coincided with removing the last of the elm trees on the property. The “Ghost Hunt” was a successful fundraiser and a thrilling reminder of Bellevue’s haunted past, leaving participants eager for more paranormal adventures.
